3388 30th StreetSince school is the foundation for the rest of a child's life, The Kung Fu Academy has developed a children's kung fu program which constantly stresses that the most important kung fu for children is school. We believe kung fu can be used to teach the valuable lesson that by working hard at school day after day a child will have the optimum chance at living a full and rich adult life. When a child learns that he or she will be rewarded for exerting an effort they will be learning a valuable lesson that will stay with them for the rest of their life.
The main objective of children classes at the Kung Fu Academy is to teach children that it is far better to work in harmony with, rather than against, others to find solutions to the inevitable interpersonal conflicts that will arise during their lifetime. We use unique teaching methods that encourage children to help each other succeed. Win-lose situations are discouraged. Cooperation, not competition, is stressed in all exercises.
Your child is taught movements that are soft and circular, as opposed to the more familiar hard, straight, snapping movements. This encourages the child to be uninhibited and results in obtaining a greater degree of freedom of motion. The natural movements of a baby are mostly curricular and soft. Straight, jerky movement goes against their natural tendency and tends to build up feelings of aggression and confrontation. Soft, circular movements are also much easier on the fragile elbow and knee joints of young children.
The words “kung fu” are of Chinese origin and are best translated as “hard work over an extended period of time”. It actually has a much broader meaning than self defense. The true meaning of kung fu lies in the mastery of excellence in any facet of life. With that idea as the foundation of our system, the Kung Fu Academy believes that the most important kung fu a child can practice is in the arena of school. We constantly encourage our students to make the absolute most of their time in the classroom and at home.
